WK&S 2004 Photo Freight Special
Like last year, I decided to do another freight train charter for 2004. This year's train was on Saturday November 6, 2004.
The train comprised General Electric locomotive #7258, LNE gondola #10381, LNE flat car #719, C&O box car #5504 and Reading caboose #92830.
This train is particularly special in that it featured the inaugural trip of box car #5504. Although the box car had been on the property for more than ten years, this is the first time the car left Kempton and traveled over the line to Wanamaker. The box car was freshly painted during the summer of 2004 and was the highlight of the trip.
As a final note, the photographs below are presented in geographical order so this page can serve as a brief tour of the line.
Northbound Trip
The train is beside Kempton station ready for departure.
Passing Fuhrman's Grove.
General Electric #7258 leads the train upgrade toward the bridge over Ontelaunee Creek.
Passing between an orchard and pumpkin field just north of the Ontelaunee Creek bridge.
Pausing at Wanamaker station to rearrange the train.
Again at Wanamaker station, the train is ready for the southbound trip back to Kempton, but will first back to the end of the line for a few more pictures.
End of the line. This location is about a quarter mile north of Wanamaker station and parallels Rt. 143. Rt.143 is just visible in the lower left corner of the picture.
This really is the end of the line. Both the rails and the grade have been cut away beyond the bump-post.
Southbound Trip
Shot from Rt. 143, the train drifts back down to Wanamakers.
Again from Rt. 143, a shot of Reading caboose #92830.
Southbound through Wanamaker station.
Approaching the Clover Road crossing at Steinsville.
Crossing Ontelaunee Creek bridge.
Again on the bridge, the highlight of the train, C&O box car #5504.
Drifting through the woods toward Fuhrman's Grove.
Trexler. The log home on the left dates from the 1700s.
Back at Kempton.
